Community Male Figures Inspire RJS Students to Read

October 27, 2017

Rebecca M. Johnson School was the breaking ground for the first ever REAL DADS READ Program in Springfield. Over 50 male figures were invited to be guest readers at the school, an impactful opportunity thoroughly enjoyed by both students and guests.

This event is a community collaboration with Kevin Green, founder of Seeds of a Father, Real Dads Read by Kenneth Braswell, the Martin Luther King Family Service Inc., and Rebecca M. Johnson Elementary School.

Based out of Georgia, the REAL (Read, Excel, Achieve, and Lead) Dads Read program is an exciting reading initiative that is designed to deepen literacy and instill a love for reading in students. The program encourages and improves student literacy skills, provides mentoring opportunities for men, and demonstrates the importance of student achievement and community partnerships. It also serves as a great opportunity for parents and community members to interact with students and have a positive impact on their overall attitudes toward reading.
