The Springfield Retirement System is a mandatory retirement plan for many full-time and part-time employees of the City of Springfield.

The Massachusetts Teachers' Retirement System provides retirement, disability, and survivor benefits to more than 91,000 active educators in Massachusetts.


OBRA
Seasonal, temporary, and some part-time employees of the City of Springfield are required to participate in Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA).

SMART Plan 457(b)
The SMART Plan for Public Employees is a retirement savings program available for Commonwealth of Massachusetts state and municipal employees.  Authorized under section 457 of the Internal Revenue code, Section 457 programs, commonly referred to as a 457 deferred compensation program, allow eligible employees to save and invest pre-tax and after-tax dollars through salary deferrals into a wide array of low fee investment options.
