New Hire Information for Educators

This page is intended for educators who have received a conditional recommendation for employment with the Springfield Public Schools.

Preparing for the Welcome Session

The items below are required to finalize the processing of new employees. Please come prepared to your welcome session to allow for an expedited onboarding, assignment of start date, and appropriate salary determination. To avoid delays in processing your HR file, you must bring all of the following documents with you to the session.

Please plan to bring:

  • A photo identification as outlined by I-9 regulations (Original document only)
  • Proof of DESE licensure or MA professional certification (where applicable) and MTEL scores
    • If your Massachusetts DESE license is still pending at the time of hire, it is your responsibility to provide the Human Resource Department with proof of licensure
  • Experience Letters/ Employment Verification
    • Copies of experience for outside service must be on official letterhead and contain the following information:
      • Name of position held
      • Specific dates of employment (e.g. MM/DD/YYYY)
      • Employment status (Full-Time or Part-Time)
      • Length of the school year in weeks
        • Full credit for teaching experience in other school systems is granted only when the school year is at least thirty-six (36) weeks in length. Recognition of previous experience is based only on a full school year of continuous teaching service in one (1) or more school systems.
  • Official Transcripts for any undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral work completed
    • All submitted transcripts must state that the degree was conferred and include the conferral date
    • Official transcripts may be submitted in hard copy (in the original sealed envelope) or via electronic delivery (emailed directly to Human Resources)
  • Fingerprint receipt
  • Direct Deposit
    • Please bring a voided/cancelled check or a direct deposit set up form from your bank.
