Information for New Hires

This page is intended for educators who have received a conditional offer of employment with the Springfield Public Schools.

The items below are required to finalize the processing of newly recommended educators.  Please come to your Welcome Session or new hire meeting prepared with the following documentation to allow for expedited onboarding, assignment of start date, and appropriate salary placement.

Identification to complete the I-9

E-Verify
     The City of Springfield participates in E-Verify.  For more information regarding E-Verify, please click here.

Proof of DESE licensure or MA professional certification (if applicable)
     If your MA DESE license has not been awarded at the time of hire, it is your responsibility to provide the Human Resources Department with proof of licensure.

MTEL Score Sheets

Experience Letters/Employment Verification
     Experience letters/employment verification must be on official letterhead and contain the following information:
      * Title of Position Held
      * Specific employment dates (e.g. MM/DD/YYY)
      * Employment Status (e.g. Full-time, Part-time)
      * Length of the school year, in weeks - Full credit for teaching experience in other school systems is granted only when the school year is at least 36 weeks in length.  Recognition of previous experience is based only on a full school year of continuous teaching service in one (1) or more school systems.

Official Transcripts
     All submitted transcripts must state that the degree was conferred/awarded and include the conferral/awarded date.
     Official transcripts may be submitted in hard copy (in the sealed original envelope) or via electronic delivery (emailed directly to the assigned Human Resources Analyst)

Fingerprinting Receipt
     Please make the appointment with the National Criminal History Check (fingerprinting) Center immediately to avoid delays in processing (some centers are scheduling appointments up to two weeks in the future).  Review the information regarding the registration process by using the following link: SPS Info on How to Register for a Fingerprinting Appt.pdf.

Direct Deposit Set Up
     SPS requires direct deposit for all employees.  Employees are required to complete documentation and provide the SPS Payroll Department with the necessary supporting documentation to arrange for direct deposit.  A copy of this enrollment form will be provided to you by your Human Resources Analyst.  The completed form, including the necessary additional paperwork for direct deposit must be completed prior to your start date.  Your paychecks will be held in Central Office until the paperwork has been submitted.
