METCO

The METCO Program is a grant program funded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is a voluntary program intended to increase diversity, reduce racial isolation and expand educational opportunities by permitting students in Springfield to attend public schools in suburban communities that have agreed to participate. The participating host communities in the Springfield METCO Program are East Longmeadow, Hampden/Wilbraham, Longmeadow and Southwick-Tolland. As the purpose and goals of the METCO program are to increase diversity and reduce racial isolation, students must be non-white to be eligible to participate in the program.

Participants in the METCO program are selected each spring by lottery to fill vacancies declared by the host communities. Student applicants must have a Springfield Public Schools ID#. The METCO program does not honor a sibling pull in policy.

Please note that surrounding communities are primarily taking incoming Kindergarten students.

The timeframe to apply for the lottery for the upcoming academic year is February 1st to April 1st.

For more information about the METCO Program, please call 413.787.6959 ext. 49109 or visit http://www.doe.ma.edu/metco.
