Springfield Public Schools (SPS) welcomes members of the media into our schools and strives to provide the most accurate and timely information available. The Office of Communications is the first point of contact for all media inquiries for our district.
Interviewing School Officials
Our faculty and staff are prepared to discuss current and important issues with reporters. If a media outlet is interested in interviewing a Springfield Public Schools employee, please contact the Office of Communications. We are happy to identify the correct resource for your story and arrange an interview time, if it is possible.
Visiting Schools
SPS staff expects the Office of Communications to be involved in communication between media and schools. If you would like to visit a school, please contact our office. We will work with your schedule as well as that of the students and staff in order to ensure that your visit is a successful one. Keep in mind that all of our schools participate in early dismissal days, standardized testing and school-wide events that may prohibit your visit on a specific day. When scheduling with communications, please offer a few available dates to visit the school.
Photographing Students and Staff
SPS operates in compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. This law allows students and parents to opt out of the release of certain information about students including photographs. The Office of Communications will work with each school to determine who cannot be photographed and interviewed according to FERPA guidelines. Before taking photos, video and quotes from SPS students and staff, you must verify the legality of photographing these individuals with our office.
