Did you know that Springfield Public Schools students eat an average of 8,678 apples per day? Some of the apples SPS students munch on include Honey Crisp, Macintosh, Gala, Empire, Fuji, Macoun, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith. The district’s food service provider Sodexo USA partners with a number of local farmers to make sure fresh apple choices are always available for students. SPS sends a big shout out to: Blue Hill Orchard, JP Sullivan Apples, Belltown Hll Orchards, and E. Cecchi Farms for growing delicious apples that our students love to eat!

Springfield Public Schools celebrated National School Breakfast Week March 4 - 8.

Apples are a great source of fiber and antioxidants. Specifically, fiber helps lower bad cholesterol and helps with weight management. Antioxidants can prevent many illnesses like cancer, diabetes and heart disease, according to Medical News Today.
