Cold Weather Alert

Cold Weather Alert
As we experience cold winter weather, Springfield Public Schools is committed to ensuring that all students remain safe, warm, and comfortable during school hours and while traveling to and from school.

Winter Clothing Tips:
  • Layer up: Dress your student in layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing. The air between the layers will help keep them insulated.
  • Proper Outerwear: Coats with hoods have added warmth.
  • Protect their head: Have your student wear a hat to help prevent the loss of body heat through the head.
  • Cover their mouth: Shield your student’s lungs from extreme cold by covering their mouth when outdoors.
  • Mittens over gloves: Mittens that fit snugly at the wrist help retain warmth better than gloves.
  • Stay dry and shielded from wind: Wet clothing and strong winds can increase the risk of frostbite and hypothermia.
  • If your student rides the bus to and from school, you are reminded about the online app. FirstView, that allows parents and guardians to track their students bus along its route. This way, families can monitor the bus arrival time at their student’s stop.
