Advanced Placement (AP) courses offer students the opportunity to engage in college-level learning while still in high school. Designed by the College Board, AP classes challenge students to think critically, develop advanced academic skills, and explore subjects in greater depth than traditional coursework.
Within Springfield Public Schools, students have access to a growing selection of AP courses across multiple high schools, providing opportunities to pursue rigorous academic pathways in subjects such as English, mathematics, science, social studies, world languages, and the arts. Currently Springfield offers 33 of 42 College Board AP courses, giving students a wide range of options to challenge themselves and prepare for college-level expectations.
By enrolling in AP courses, students can strengthen their academic profile, build confidence, and develop the skills needed for success after graduation. Each course culminates in an AP Exam, and students who earn qualifying scores may be eligible to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both—depending on the policies of the colleges and universities they choose to attend.
