Azell Cavaan serves as the Chief Communication Officer for Springfield Public Schools, where she leads the district’s comprehensive communications strategy to help foster trust, transparency, and strong relationships among students, families, staff, and the broader community.  

With over 30 years of experience in mass communication, Cavaan brings a deep commitment to student success and equity. In her role, she serves as the district’s spokesperson, oversees media relations, and manages crisis communication through a multi-layered response system. Cavaan also manages strategic initiatives that celebrate and support the district’s mission, including efforts that highlight the achievements of Springfield students and staff. Her leadership in communication has served three superintendent administrations and continues to be a driving force in advancing Springfield Public Schools’ vision of preparing every student for college, career, and life.
