Beverly Showell serves as President of AFSCME Local 3556, Council 93, where she represents the clerical membership of Springfield Public Schools. In this role, she advocates for the rights, interests, and working conditions of union members in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, AFSCME’s constitution, and applicable labor laws. She is committed to ensuring that every member is treated fairly, respectfully, and in compliance with negotiated agreements and established policies. Working collaboratively with AFSCME Council representatives, she helps strengthen the collective voice of public service employees while advancing their professional and contractual protections. Her leadership is grounded in transparency, accountability, and mutual respect, and she strives to foster constructive labor-management relationships while firmly safeguarding the legal and contractual rights of her members.

Beverly began her career in public service with the City of Springfield in the Purchasing Department. She later transitioned to Springfield Public Schools, where her dedication to education and service deepened. Over the years, she has worked at John F. Kennedy Middle School, Rebecca M. Johnson School, and Bridge Academy. She has proudly served at John J. Duggan Academy for more than a decade, building lasting relationships with staff, students, and families.

Her passion for the school department begins with a genuine care for children and their success. Over time, that passion expanded to advocating for the employees who support and serve them every day. Beverly believes that when school staff are respected, supported, and treated fairly, the entire school community benefits. Through her leadership and years of service, she continues to champion both the well-being of students and the rights of the professionals who help them thrive.
