Work Permits

How to Obtain a Work Permit

Work permits and applications may be obtained at the Parent and Community Engagement Center, located at 91 School Street Springfield, MA 01105. Work permit applications may also be downloaded on this page or at www.mass.gov.

Work permits are issued ONLY after a student has proof of an offer for employment. Applications must be filled out entirely before a permit is issued. For 14 and 15-year-olds, this includes physician, employer, parent/guardian signature, and school record form. A physician’s signature and school record form are not required for work permit applicants who are 16 and 17-years-old, but a parent/guardian signature is still required.

In addition, proof of age (birth certificate, Massachusetts ID, passport, or immigration record) is also required. A school ID or social security card are not accepted as a valid proof of age. The minor requesting the work permit must be present to receive one, it cannot be issued without them present.
