Teach for America (TFA)
Teach for America recruits outstanding and diverse leaders to become TFA "corps members." Corps members commit to teaching for two years in a low-income community, where they are employed by local schools and confront both the challenges and joys of expanding opportunities for kids. After two years, corps members become part of the TFA alumni network. Informed and inspired by their students, many continue teaching; others pursue other leadership roles in schools and school systems or launch careers in other fields that shape educational access and opportunity. Reach to Teach - Westfield State University
Reach to Teach (RTT) is a partnership between Springfield Public Schools and Westfield State University (WSU) that was created with the intent of encouraging students of color graduating from Springfield Public Schools to enter into the teaching profession, especially in the fields of math, science, and special education. Qualified high school graduates are guaranteed admission into WSU's teacher licensure program. RTT provides students with mentoring support while at WSU. Successful graduates of RTT are then guaranteed employment as educators in the Springfield Public Schools.
Paradigm Shift
The diverse teacher workforce coalition (paraprofessional to teacher pipeline) is working to remove the obstacles that may be standing in the way of becoming a teacher. the coalition's strong network will support you as you become a teacher. You bring your determination and commitment, Paradigm Shift helps you navigate the education, training, and MTEL testing requirements while you continue as a para-educator. They introduce you to sources of financial aid and provide mentors and tutors to help you on your path to success. They provide the names and numbers of people to call if an issue arises. S-Cubed - Springfield College
S-Cubed is a MA DESE-approved educator preparation program for teachers who currently work in the Springfield Public Schools and are looking to receive their post-baccalaureate initial teaching license. For more information on the S-Cubed Program, please click here.
180 Days in Springfield - UMass Amherst
Students enrolled in TEACH 180 Days in Springfield prepare for initial licensure for middle or high school and Master's degree in the space of an academic year, while teaching at a school in Springfield Public Schools. During this time, participants receive a thorough education in best practices, support from fellow students, and mentoring from faculty. They graduate with a deep understanding of urban education, an extensive professional network, and excellent job prospects. The 180 Days program runs from late-August through mid-June (or the last day of school in the Springfield Public Schools district), essentially the duration of one complete academic year in Springfield Public Schools. College of Our Lady of the Elms
The Cynthia A. Lyons Center for Equity in Urban Education (CEUE) seeks to increase the number and diversity of qualified teachers in Chicopee, Holyoke, and Springfield. The CEUE will help bridge the 800-teacher annual gap across K-12 schools in the area, especially in specific roles such as special education, English language learners, and science, technology, engineering, and math. The center will allow para-educators already working in urban schools in these cities to get their bachelor’s degree so they can pursue a teaching license. It also gives teachers or anyone else with a bachelor’s degree the ability to pursue their master of arts in teaching degree.
American International College
Springfield Promise Fellows - American International College and the Springfield Public Schools have partnered to develop our next generation of leaders by offering Promise Fellow Scholarships to exceptional educators.
We believe that by investing in the district’s greatest commodity, its highly qualified and talented educators, we can create a pipeline of strong dedicated agents of change. The Promise Fellow program will allow recipients to:
- Earn their license as a principal/assistant principal,
- Become a more reflective leader, listener and observer,
- Use data to identify priorities and lead through change,
- Develop and share a detailed vision for leadership that builds a high-expectation culture and maximizes student achievement,
- Supervise and monitor a rigorous standards-based curriculum, assessment and instruction system,
- Prioritize the instructional focus when observing classroom instruction,
- Provide students and staff with opportunities to learn and lead,
- Share decision making.

Troops to Teachers
Transitioning military personnel to new careers as public school teachers.
Troops to Teachers (TTT) offers counseling and financial aid assistance to eligible U.S. Armed Forces personnel qualified to be hired as teachers. They also offer referral services to assist with the transition to the classroom. Troops to Teacher offers a variety of support services to eligible military members who are interested in careers as public school teachers.

Springfield Public Schools is excited to announce we are part of an innovative initiative to connect area residents with jobs available within our district and in Western Mass.
City, community, education and employer leaders have developed Springfield WORKS, an innovative web platform that matches job seekers to employment opportunities based on skills and abilities.
"We are very excited to be a partner in this project," says Springfield Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Lydia Martinez.
